IACMM Protocol and Policies
1.SKILLS REQUIRED TO ATTAIN IACMM
In depth knowledge of the following areas:
- Factors for predicting risk of increasing myopia
- Pathology associated with high myopia
- Axial length
- OrthoK
- Soft Myopia Control Lenses
- Atropine
- Binocular vision and myopia control
- Misc. (Choroid, Pupil size, corneal hysteresis and MM)
- Spectacle lens options
- Combination Interventions to manage myopia
2.MANDATORY PREREQUISTES
- Must have been an EUROK/IAOMC member for the last year
- Must have attended one IAOMC section meeting within last 3 years (Covid exception).
- Must have attended a Myopia Management Day.
- Must own, use or have access to a biometer and topographer.
3.TESTING
WRITTEN EXAM:
- Multiple choice.
- Study guides provided.
- Read the recommended books and guides – “Managing Myopia One Child at a Time" is highly recommended. Find here a discount to purchase the book.
- Candidate must pass with minimum score of 85% in order to progress to the Oral Panel Exam
- If score is less than 85% – test must be repeated
- Allowed one retest at no charge
- If candidate fails a second time, must submit a new application and pay full fee again.
- Test may be taken at section meeting or at the office of an FIAOMC.

4.RENEWAL
Certificate renews at no charge annually provided membership is in good standing
5.POLICIES
A- RE-EXAMINATION (Written and Oral Exam)
- All testing must be completed within 2 years from the date of the initial written exam.
- If it is later than that date, the candidate must reapply and pay the new fee.
B- TESTING WINDOW:
- All testing must be completed within 2 years from the date of the initial written exam.
- If it is later than that date, the candidate must reapply and pay the new fee.
C- FEES:
Application fee: Each section is responsible for determining the FIAO testing fee. The fee is paid directly to the section by whatever means they set up
D- TEST TAKEN “OUT OF SECTION”
- If a candidate chooses to take the test (oral and written) out of section
- They must first obtain permission from their section’s fellowship chair
- The entire fee goes to the other section.
- The out-of-section chair is responsible for accepting and reviewing the application. In-section applications are given priority.
